Airport Pick up and Nanny Shipping (Doorstep Delivery)
Shipping a puppy via airlines is a common concern for many clients. With over 15 years of experience shipping puppies across the USA and Canada, I understand these concerns and want to explain the process to help ease your worries.
Airline Requirements for Shipping Your Puppy: To ship a puppy to different states or internationally, airlines require a health certificate from a certified vet issued within 10 days of travel. This certificate confirms that the puppy is healthy. Some airlines may also need an acclimation statement from the vet, indicating that the puppy can tolerate specific temperature ranges for short periods. It’s important that the puppy is not sedated, as sedation can affect their balance and equilibrium, which can be risky during transport. Additionally, sedation can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular issues due to changes in altitude pressure. Depending on the airline and airport, puppies are either checked in and picked up from the passenger terminal’s nanny or baggage claim office. Puppies are usually checked in about two hours before the flight and are generally available for pickup within 30-45 minutes of arrival, or they can be delivered to your doorstep if requested and paid for.”
The Flight
After check-in, puppies are kept in the passenger cabin with the nanny accompanying them on the flight. They are placed in temperature-controlled areas until it’s time to board the plane. Many airlines use heated or air-conditioned vans to transport pets to and from the plane. Airlines that don’t offer this service will not ship pets if temperatures are below 25 degrees or above 85 degrees. Once aboard, pets travel in the pressurized and temperature-controlled passenger cabin.
Some people worry that shipping might be too stressful for puppies. At Sunlight Bullies, we strive to make the transition as smooth and stress-free as possible. Carriers are lined with thick, absorbent bedding for comfort and to manage any accidents. While it’s uncommon, puppies might relieve themselves during transit. We also include a thick layer of crumpled paper towels in the carrier, providing extra warmth and a ‘hiding place’ to help the puppies feel secure and comfortable during their journey.
After Your Puppy Arrives The Closest Airport In Your Location,
Upon arrival, most puppies are relieved to see familiar faces. If you’re picking up your puppy from the airport (especially after arranging or paying for pickup), it’s a good idea to bring baby wipes and a towel, particularly if you have a long drive home. If your puppy has had an accident in the carrier, both you and your new puppy will benefit from a quick wipe-down and a fresh towel to replace any soiled bedding. For short trips, keeping the puppy in the carrier until you get home is fine. For longer drives, you might want to let the puppy out to stretch its legs before hitting the road. However, some puppies may be unsettled by the change and might prefer to stay in their carrier.
Once home, we recommend starting your puppy in a small room, like the master bathroom, where there are fewer places to hide. This encourages your puppy to explore more quickly than if they were in a larger area with potential hiding spots. We send a teaser toy, two cans of wet food, and a small bag of dry food with the carrier. Use the toy to coax your puppy out of the carrier. Playtime is an excellent way to ease your puppy’s transition to a new environment and build a bond. A smaller space helps your puppy feel secure and prevents sensory overload, which can make the adjustment process smoother.”
Nanny Shipping;
If you’ve arranged or paid for home delivery of your puppy, you can simply relax at home and prepare to welcome your new family member. The pet couriers and their nanny will handle all the details of the process. They will ensure that by the time your puppy arrives at your doorstep, it will be ready to jump out of the crate and explore its new home right away.
